Trainers Eddie Bissell
started work in the UK as a newspaper photographer in 1962. A spell of freelancing from 1971-73 brought work with numerous national and international publications and
agencies and he became picture editor of a In 1979, he was invited to restructure and run photojournalism courses
at the U.K.'s National Council for the Training of Journalists and concentrated
on training for nine years. He focused his photographic work on sport, and was elected a member of the Professional Sports Photographers In 1990 he started working with the Thomson Foundation, conducting international photojournalism training courses in Africa, Asia, Malaysia and Europe. He was elected an Associate of the British Institute of Professional Photography and a Fellow of the Royal Photographic Society in 1991. His work focuses mostly on refugees, children of war and development projects within the Asian region. He has published a book, "Children of the Dust," about street children in Vietnam. His articles and photographs have appeared in The Bangkok Post, The Nation, The Asian Defence Journal and the Asia-Pacific Defence Review. He has also done assignments for Look Magazine in Bangkok, and Channel 9 TV in Australia. Prior to relocating to Southeast Asia in 1990, Mikel was a photographer in Los Angeles, California. In 1976, he graduated from the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena with a Fine Arts
degree in photography.
